Colored lenses – the absolute basics

Product Information

Contact lenses that are used to help people see better or that are used as corrective contact lenses have been in use for decades now. Colored lenses, not so long. Only a decade ago, they were considered an extravagance that only celebrities and models could afford when it was necessary to change the color of their eyes. It has also been used in movies and videos, but for an Average Jane or Joe, this has been a dream that seemed so far away from becoming reality. However, as technology advanced and as the development and manufacturing procedures got less expensive and more doable, colored lenses are something everyone can enjoy these days.

The main purpose of colored lenses is to modify the color of the eyes. This is true for the vast majority and only certain specific lenses which have another function such as enhancing certain colors and which are used by professional athletes are used for anything else but cosmetic purposes. In fact, colored lenses could be best viewed as a fashion accessory or something like that. That would be the best categorization of colored lenses. In fact, in the medical community, they are known as cosmetic contact lenses and you might find a lot about them if you search this term in Google.

The technology behind colored lenses is nothing to be taken lightly at all. It is not that simple to inject tint into the lenses and it is necessary to do this procedure correctly and using only colors that are not going to damage the eye. This is why it took the manufacturers this long to come up with procedures that can be used and that will keep these colored lenses affordable. It all started from visibility tint in lenses which was introduced in order for people with regular corrective lenses to be able to better see and handle the lenses. They are given a bluish tint which makes them easier to notice and easier to handle.

The second type of colored lenses are enhancement tint colored lenses and their name tells you much of the story. They do not change the color of your eyes per se, but they provide the enhancement of your natural color. They will make your natural color deeper and more beautiful, thus contributing to the overall look of your eyes. The only disadvantage of these colored lenses is that they can only be used for light-colored eyes, such as light-blue and light-green eyes, as well as those very rare grey or yellowy eyes that you sometimes see. Dark eyes will not benefit from these lenses.

Luckily, there is the third type and by far the most commonly used and these color tint colored lenses which are used to completely alter the color of the eyes. These can be used by everyone as they are made in solid colors which completely cover the natural color of your eyes and give you a new, wanted color that you are looking for. These can be also used by people with dark eyes and even those with the darkest brown eyes can now see what they look with light blue eyes, for example.

Colored lenses are considered medical devices in the US and therefore, in order to purchase them, you need to go to an eye doctor and get a prescription. You can find them at novelty shops and places like that, but these are colored lenses that you should avoid. Only those made by the biggest manufacturers can be trusted and should be put in the eyes. Keep in mind that eyes are some of the most sensitive organs in the human body and they do not cope well with subpar quality lenses.

Of course, it goes without saying that colored lenses need to be maintained as well as normal corrective lenses and that you need to make sure you are taking good care of them. This means proper storage, proper handling and everything else that goes into maintaining lenses of any kind. This will keep them in the best shape and this will also keep your eyes safe from any damage or infection.
